Bebe Rexha is embracing her vulnerability. On Monday, April 15, the singer revealed she has bipolar disorder and spoke candidly about the condition on Twitter.
“For the longest time, I didn’t understand why I felt so sick.” Bebe, 29, began her series of tweets.
“I wondered why I felt lows that made me not want to leave my house or be around people and why I felt highs that wouldn’t let me sleep, wouldn’t let me stop working or creating music,” she continued. “Now I know why.”
“I’m bipolar and I’m not ashamed anymore,” she wrote. “That is all.” The "Last Hurrah" singer also revealed she was “crying her eyes out.”
Bebe explained that her newfound transparency will be apparent on her upcoming album. “This next album will be favorite album ever because I’m not holding anything back.” she wrote. “I love you all very much. And I hope you accept me as I am.”
“I don’t want you to feel sorry for me. I just want you to accept me,” she finished. “That’s all. Love you.”
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adults age 18 and older each year.
