After months of build-up online, including fans discussing the special outfits they were going to wear to the theater, Black Panther ended up raking in an estimated $192 million throughout its three-day holiday weekend.
The blockbuster, which stars Chadwick Boseman, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai, Gurira, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, and Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya has been expected to earn roughly $218 for a four-day performance, which is the highest debut for a film released in February.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther has now become the fifth largest three-day domestic opening in history.
It has also been expected to gross $169 million from the international market, estimating a whopping global debut of $361 million through Sunday. WOW.
Even celebrities haven’t been able to get enough of it. Scandal star Kerry Washington tweeted, “I’m definitely throwing my wig in somebody’s face to win my next fight #BlackPanther.
In addition to its overwhelmingly positive buzz, Black Panther’s box office has also been attributed to the fact that many celebs and fans, including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer went out of their way to help raise money to buy hundreds of tickets for disadvantaged youth across the nation.
