Brian Williams shocked many this week when he admitted that he was not on a helicopter that was shot down during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Williams had previously told the story several times on NBC. However, while speaking to his Nightly News audience on Feb. 4, he owned up to making “a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago.”
The scandal marks a low moment for the news anchor. But social media users are turning his fabricated story into comedic gold Using the hashtag #brianwilliamsmisremembers, creative minds across the nation are now cropping Williams into other historic scenarios he may have “misremembered” reporting -- including his front-row seat for the O.J. Simpson car chase in 1994.
‘”I said Martin, do you dream?, he said yes. I said, 'well, tell the folks about your dreams,” joked an image of Williams resting beside Martin Luther King Jr. at the historic March on Washington in 1963.
A live shot on the moon!? It Doesn't get any better than that.
Even the film Apocalypse Now wasn’t safe from the work of the social media tricksters.
