The character and franchise dates all the way back to the 1980’s and became incredibly popular on the early 90's PBS show, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
That show, hosted by Greg Lee and featuring the late Lynne Thigpen, pitted three contestants against one another as they answered geography-related questions in order to determine the location of one of Carmen’s henchmen. It was listed as one of the greatest game shows of all time by TV Guide back in 2001.
