Hocus Pocus is getting a remake, and fans have mixed feelings about it! The 1993 Halloween film, starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, has gained a cult following through the years, with nearly constant reruns on Freeform and the Disney Channel during the month of October. But now Disney has decided to give the film a modern, “made-for-TV” makeover, and fans aren’t sure what to think! Click through for more details on the remake and to find out what fans are saying!

According to Page Six, Hocus Pocus will be getting a “reimagining” in the form of a Disney Channel original movie. Scarlett Lacey, who writes the E! show The Royals, is writing the film, while David Kirscher, who produced the original film, will be an executive producer.

Although the film’s original director Kenny Ortega has directed two Disney Channel film franchises, including High School Musical, he will not be involved in the Hocus Pocus remake.
The films’ original cast, including Bette and Sarah Jessica, as well as Kathy Najimy, will also not be a part of the project, and some fans not okay with it! “How dare they,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another fan quoted one of Bette’s line from the film, calling the people behind the remake, “Fools! All of you!”
“No. Just No,” said another, adding that they’d be more okay with “a sequel with the original cast.”
“Leave it be, people get protective over this one,” one fan advised.
