Jimmy Fallon was the first one to break the news about Idris earning this coveted title during his late-night show on Tuesday.
PEOPLE debuted their Sexiest Man Alive cover featuring Idris on Tuesday morning, where they describe the 46-year-old as a "sweet, smoldering superstar."
“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?'” he told PEOPLE after finding out about his honor. "Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’"

"But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure," he continued.
Idris' star power has grown exponentially over the past decade due to his roles in Pacific Rim, Star Trek: Beyond, Thor: Ragnarok and the BBC series Luther.
He appears to be fully aware of his sex symbol status given how many sexy photos he's posted on his Instagram over the past couple of years. The Golden Globe winner is also a big romantic, as he proposed to his now fiancee Sabrina Dhowre back in February in a really beautiful way.
