The 51-year-old actor is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film, which Depp said he loves playing. “I have so much fun getting back into his head each time,” he told OK! “He really allows my subversive side to surface. I have to be careful sometimes not to slip into Captain Jack mode when I’m in a silly mood.”

As for his childhood, it was difficult, the actor confirmed. “My mom and dad fought a lot. Sometimes it was really hellish. Music was my way out of misery — my guitar became my best friend. When my band broke up, acting came in and my life went in a different direction,” he said.
