Jonathan Rhys Meyers is trying to put his life together after his wife Mara Lane’s tragic miscarriage caused him to relapse. Mara took to Instagram on Sunday to reveal the devastating news and update fans on her husband’s health. “With much sadness, we open our hearts to share that J and I lost our second child, who was baking in the oven,” Mara wrote, adding that Jonathan “took the news particularly not so well” and “drank between jobs to try to cope with the sadness of this news.” Click through to read the rest of Mara’s post and to find out how Jonathan is recovering in the wake of his family’s tragedy.
“Depression is a real concern from past abuse as well as alcoholism which he was born with. He has been able to turn any ugliness and hurt in his life into art and is the strongest person I know,” Mara said of Jonathan.
“It does seem though that every time we seem to be making so much progress... sometimes it's like two steps forward, one step back,” she admitted.
“To some others, my husband is an Irishman who battles alcoholism and depression and drank between jobs to try to cope with the sadness of this news,” Mara wrote.
“He is safe and with his sober living companion and bodyguard to get into a detox closer to home since he was denied hospital help twice in Ireland because of an already two month wait period,” she explained.
“Life is life. Life is beautiful. Life is tough sometimes though so let's try not looking down at someone unless we intend on helping them up,” Mara added.
Jonathan, who gained fame while playing King Henry VIII on The Tudors, and his wife Mara are already parents to son Wolf, who was born in December 2016. She recently posted this photo of Jonathan and her son, calling Jonathan “the best father…loving, super protective, patient and attentive.”
