Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry: Here's Who Wins The Battle Of The Pop Stars
Jan. 30 2015, Updated 11:57 a.m. ET
There’s rumors swirling that Katy Perry may take a jab at frenemy Taylor Swift during her Super Bowl halftime performance on Feb. 1. So, does that mean Katy reigns supreme or is Taylor the one who’s getting the last laugh? Here’s how the pop stars stack up to each other in terms of album sales, high-profile performances and more.
But before we get to that, it’s important to know how this fight started in the first place. It began in 2014 when Taylor revealed to Rolling Stone that the song “Bad Blood,” off her album, 1989, was about a fellow female artist who “hired people out from under me. I was like, ‘ Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies,” Tay said of the dancers who allegedly left Taylor’s “Red” tour to join Katy’s.
As for the music? Taylor wins when it comes to album sales, since 1989 topped one million sales in its first week and became 2014’s top-selling album. Katy’s Prism, on the other hand, did well, but was only the 14th best-selling album of 2013.

And when it comes to their personal lives, 2014 was all about the gal pals for now-single Taylor, who’s rarely seen without Emma Stone, Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, or Lena Dunham. Katy’s got fewer famous friends, but her relationships with Diplo, Riff Raff, and her eventually getting back together with John Mayer kept her more than relevant.
But when it comes to the girls’ recent performances? Taylor performed at the highly publicized Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in December, but Katy wins this one by a landslide since she’ll perform at the Super Bowl halftime show, which will reportedly be watched by over 100 million people!
