Kelly Rutherford may have lost her children to ex Daniel Giersch, but she’s still standing by her six-year custody battle. For the first time since the custody loss, the Gossip Girl actress is opening up about her heartbreaking experience.
“Children need both parents,” she told Elle Romania. “You do not want to make them suffer. I hope that this story be an example to mothers.”
As her children Hermes, 8, and Helena, 6, live in Monaco with their father, Kelly wants them to “be happy” and know “they are loved.” “No matter how long it takes this, I want them to know the truth,” she said.

A Monaco judge ruled that the children are no longer allowed to visit the United States after Kelly refused to send them home from New York.
"I know that if I find my peace, they will benefit," she said of her children. "Talk about love because I hope that is what will make them stronger. When all this is over, I hope that they will look back and have the impression that it was not as bad as it was, actually. I do not want them to feel everything. There are good people and generous and funny."
