In December 2015, the father of four was sentenced to eight years in federal prison on drug trafficking charges. The reality star pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession of heroin and cocaine in New York. He began serving his sentence in January 2016.
According to Madamenoire, Mendeecees completed a substance abuse program, took courses on how to parent from prison, money management, health and nutrition, and public speaking. His participation in the substance abuse program reportedly decreased his sentence by a year.
The reality star was initially facing a maximum sentence of 10 years for the charges. However, his sentence was reduced to eight years as part of a plea deal after he admitted that he aided in the transfer drugs from New York City to Rochester, NY from 2006 to 2008.
At the time, Mendeecees posted a message on social media saying, "I completely accept responsibility for all that is going on." The star thanked his family and fans for their support.
