“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry,” Thomas and Doria said in a statement released by the Kensington Palace. “Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person.”
“To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents,” they continued. “We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”
According to the couple’s engagement announcement, Prince Harry even asked Meghan’s parents for permission to propose! “Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents,” the statement read.
Meghan’s parents divorced when she was six, but the Suits actress says she’s still close to them both, especially her mother. “We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support,” she told Glamour in August. “That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.”

Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Grant, has remained silent on social media in the wake of her sister’s engagement news. The writer previously called Meghan “a social climber” who “dumped” her in 2008 when she developed multiple sclerosis.
Samantha was reportedly writing a tell-all on Meghan, tentatively titled The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister. Samantha’s mother Roslyn defended Meghan and said Samantha “has been dogging Meghan for years.” “Everything Samantha has said about Meghan is a lie,” Roslyn told The Daily Star.
Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., has also not made a statement regarding his sister’s engagement. Thomas was arrested in January for allegedly holding a gun to his girlfriend’s head, but the charges were later dropped, The Sun reported.
