Meghan Markle's Estranged Father Thomas Says He’s ‘Delighted’ About Royal Baby's Birth

The world was abuzz when Meghan Markle gave birth on Monday, May 6, to a baby boy. While her husband, Prince Harry, and mom Doria Ragland were both by her side during the delivery, one family member was missing. The Duchess of Sussex's estranged father Thomas Markle, with whom she has a tumultuous relationship, was not there. But the new grandpa couldn't help but react to the news. "I'm delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well," Thomas, 74, told The Sun.
"I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor," he added.
Thomas sent his well wishes to his grandson and said, "God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen."

When Meghan and Harry first announced they were having a baby in October 2018, Thomas gave his take on the news at the time. "The first thing I thought about was holding Meghan in my arms as a newborn 37 years ago. My baby is having a baby," he said to Mail on Sunday.
Via their joint Instagram, the couple shared that Meghan gave birth to a son on Monday. "We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz," they captioned the post.
