Harry and Meghan credited a “mutual friend” with making their romance happen. While they didn’t name the mystery pal to “protect her privacy,” they said the friend arranged for the two to meet on a blind date in London in July 2016.
Prince Harry said he knew nothing about Meghan at the time and had never watched Suits, and Meghan didn't know much about Harry either! “The only thing I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, ‘Was he nice?’” Meghan revealed.
Within just a few weeks, Harry persuaded Meghan to join him in Botswana! “We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry explained, adding that they were “really by ourselves” for five days. “It was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other,” he said.
The two revealed that they’d already been dating for five to six months when the news of their relationship went public. “Both were unprepared for what followed,” Mishal tweeted, referencing the frenzy that surrounded the bombshell news.
Meghan said the focus on her ethnicity was “disheartening.” “At the end of the day I am proud of who I am and where I come from,” she told Mishal.

Harry and Meghan both credited Harry’s brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton with offering them “fantastic support.” Meghan confirmed she has met the Queen a “couple of times” and thinks she’s “an incredible woman.”
Although Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton on safari in Kenya, Harry kept his proposal relatively simple. “It was a standard, typical night for us,” he said, revealing that he got down on one knee and proposed in the middle of cooking dinner — a roast chicken! “She didn’t even let me finish,” Harry said. “She said, ‘Can I say yes?’”
The ring is anything but simple, though! Harry revealed the main stone comes from Botswana, while the two diamonds on either side are from his mother Princess Diana’s jewelry collection. “It’s days like this I really miss having her around,” he confessed.
When asked how he thinks his late mother would have gotten along with Meghan, he said they would have been “thick as thieves…best friends.”
Meghan shares Diana’s passion for humanitarian work and plans to use her new role to focus on causes important to her. Although Meghan has given up her role on the show Suits, Meghan said she doesn’t “see it as giving anything up.” “Now it’s time to work as a team with you,” she said to Harry. Added Harry, "I know that she will be unbelievably good at the job part of it as well."
