Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Nicole Kidman & More Set To Star In Film Adaption Of Broadway Musical ‘The Prom’

Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Nicole Kidman and more are confirmed to star in the film adaptation of The Prom. The Broadway musical is being brought to screens by director Ryan Murphy, who is under a five-year deal with Netflix.
Meryl, 70, is playing the role of Dee Dee Allen. Her love interest, Principal Hawkins, is being portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key.
James Corden will be Meryl’s right-hand man. He is starring as Barry Glickman. Awkwafina was given the role of the publicist for Meryl and James’ characters.
Nicole, 52, is acting as a Broadway newbie along with Andrew Rannells. This film marks another collaboration between Big Little Lies stars Nicole and Meryl.

Ariana, 25, is going to star as the popular daughter of the head of the PTA. The Thank U, Next singer and her manager Scooter Braun are also helping Ryan produce the film’s soundtrack.
The Prom centers around the story of a girl named Emma, who is told she’s not allowed to bring her girlfriend to the prom. The director has yet to cast that character.
Filming is due to begin in December and the movie will debut in the fall of 2020, sources told Deadline.
