That didn’t take long. Deadline is reporting that Netflix has decided to pull the plug on their popular series House of Cards only twelve hours after its star Kevin Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of allegedly making unwanted sexual advances on him when he was only 14 years old.
The show will end after its upcoming sixth season, which will air in mid-2018. While Netflix and its producers Media Rights Capital were leaning towards ending the show awhile, key cast and creatives were only told this morning in a series of calls.
“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey," said the companies in a joint statement today. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
Kevin has publicly apologized on his Twitter for the alleged incident, where Anthony claims he tried to seduce him during a party back in New York City in 1986. The American Beauty star said that he didn’t remember the encounter, and blamed it on "deeply inappropriate drunken behavior."
In a following tweet, Kevin came out as gay, which has been met with a ton of criticism since its posting, including from fellow actor Zachary Quinto.

The unlikely future of the show was reported on earlier today, when former House of Lies show runner Beau Willimon released a statement about the alleged incident, saying it is “deeply troubling.”
Kevin’s career is clearly in jeopardy, as his planned project with Netflix called Gore, about the life of acerbic author Gore Vidal, may be scrapped now due to the controversy.
Since its premiere in 2013, House of Cards has been one of Netflix’s most talked about shows. The end of its fifth season found Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright) as the country’s first female POTUS as Kevin’s character Francis Underwood resigns.
