Normani Kordei is having an amazing year. The singer’s group, Fifth Harmony, just won three iHeartRadio Music Awards, and it was recently announced the pop star would be an official contestant on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. But on her rise to the top, Normani has secretly faced a long and difficult climb.

RadarOnline.com has learned that the singer’s father almost tore the family apart when he was arrested for possession of cocaine in 2006.

Radar obtained Derrick Hamilton’s police report from the Pinellas County Circuit Court, which revealed Derrick had been discovered with “an off-white flaky substance…in the driver’s side of a 1991 black Chevrolet Tahoe.”

“Then and there unlawfully have in his control a certain controlled substance, cocaine,” the reporting office wrote.

Luckily for Normani and her family, Derrick ended up not being prosecuted for the crime.

“The State Attorney, having taken testimony under oath at the State Attorney investigation, concludes that the fact and circumstances revealed do no warrant prosecution at this time,” the court ruled on February 2, 2007.
