“My mom, she would always talk about how much pain she was in, and it makes you depressed. I didn't get it, because I had never felt that way,” Emily, 43, said in a confessional. “But now that I have this chronic arthritic pain, I get it. There is no relief, ever. It makes me irritable. It ruins everything.”

“You got a high pain threshold. I can't believe you've been living like this,” the doctor told the RHOC star. “You're gonna need a hip replacement. It's gonna be a life-changer for you. It's gonna be wonderful. You will have very little to no pain when it's all healed. You'll be able to walk, you'll be able to exercise.”

Emily called Shane, 44, and told him, “I just got done with the doctor, and he said I need a hip replacement.” He shot back, “Yeah, you let it go way too long.”

The mom-of-three was visibly upset and responded, “No, I understand, I'm just telling you that that's how severe the pain is and how bad the joint is. There's nothing there. There's no cartilage at all. It's gone.”

“Okay, well, you don't have to talk like that. I'm just asking if you got an X-ray,” Shane responded.

In a confessional Emily said, “Like, you're my husband. You're supposed to be by my side. You're supposed to support me. So, if I call you, just say, ‘I'm so sorry, honey. It'll be okay. I'll take care of you. Don't worry about it.’ That's all I wanna hear. That's it.”

Emily and Shane’s marital tension has been a huge topic of the latest season of RHOC. The lawyer voiced her frustration because Shane spent a lot of time away from home studying for the California Bar exam. Emily had to pick up the slack with their three children, while she was also recovering from the surgery she had in October. In mid-November, Shane found out he failed the California Bar exam for the fourth time.
