Ryan Edwards has come a long, long way over the years. The Teen Mom OG dad has battled with addiction and now is using his platform to tell his story. During part one of the Teen Mom OG reunion, Maci Bookout's ex and baby daddy opened up in a rare interview.

"Mine started out with painkillers," Ryan said of his drug addiction. "Addiction wasn't even thought of. You know what I mean? I was like, 'You can't get addicted to anything.'"

"I remember the first time that I felt uncomfortable," Ryan began to explain before Dr. Drew said, "Withdrawal." Ryan continued, "I didn't know what it was, I thought I was just sick. I came home and I was telling my buddy about and he was like, 'Here do this.' And instantly I felt better. After that, it was everyday, all day."

"Did you understand that it progresses to death?" Dr. Drew asked Ryan, who responded, "Yeah, that's only one way."

"I remember saying that I'd never use a needle," Ryan added.

Ryan admitted that he doesn't remember exactly why he started using heroin, because once he started he "never" went back to using anything else.

Ryan said that when his wife, Mackenzie, asks what it's like he described it as like "living in a cage." He added, "You can't do anything, you can't go anywhere, you can't travel, it's awful.

Ryan explained that his sobriety was going well, but he isn't sure what the future holds.

"Unfortunately, I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. So I can't sit here and say 'Oh, I'll be sober for the rest of my life.' I don't know that, but I would love to be and I'm willing to do pretty much whatever it's going to take."

Ryan entered rehab back in September 2018, which made him miss the birth of his second son, Jagger, in October 2018. "I was highly pissed. But in the end, I probably benefited from it and it is what it is, I can't change it."
