Selena Gomez has aways been open about her ongoing battle with lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects a patient's organs and tissues. But today, she revealed that she's been laying low because she recently underwent a kidney transplant due to the illness!
"I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of," Selena wrote on Instagram."So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."
The pop star shared a close-up of her scar after surgery. She's already gone through chemotherapy for the illness and even froze her eggs in order to make sure she could still have kids.
Selena thanked her family and doctors and gave a special thanks to her friend, Francia Raisa, who donated one of her kidneys. "I am incredibly blessed," she wrote. "I love you so much sis."
