It’s been five months since Charlie Heaton was detained at the Los Angeles airport and sent back to his native U.K. after allegedly being caught with cocaine, missing the season two premiere of his hit show, Stranger Things. Now that things have been smoothed over with the authorities, the actor has finally opened up about everything that went down. Click through to read what he’s said!
“It was f***ing awful. It was just awful,” Charlie reflected in a new interview with Flaunt magazine.
The 24-year-old then suggested that what happened might have been due to his celebrity. “It was hard. Everything happened so fast, and I hadn’t come to terms with the fact that I was famous,” he said.
He was also looked back on how it could have impacted a major moment in his career, “When something steps in from the work you are doing and breaks into your personal life…you feel kind of vulnerable.”

But despite the very serious situation, Charlie has previously stated, “I was not arrested or charged with a crime, and cooperated fully with the U.S. officials at LAX.” He doubled down on that in Flaunt: “All of a sudden it becomes a very big story and it gets really blown out of proportion.”
Despite the scare, neither the show nor Charlie’s reputation (or ability to travel to the U.S.) has been massively affected. In fact, the 24-year-old, who’s now dating co-star Natalie Dyer, has assured that, “It’s all sorted now. We go back in April so I plan to go back to America next month, and yes, I can go back.”
