Adam Levine is saying goodbye to NBC's singing competition series The Voice and will not be returning for season 17. The show's host Carson Daly announced the news on the Today show on Friday, May 24. But another former coach and famous face will be taking Adam's coveted spot. “After 16 seasons, Adam Levine, our beloved coach and friend, has decided to leave The Voice,” Carson, 45, said.
“Adam was one of the original coaches that launched the show, winning the competition three times and inspiring many of the artists he worked closely with over the years," the former TRL host continued.
Carson added, “Of course, many viewers will miss his frenemy relationship with Blake Shelton. He will always be a cherished member of The Voice family. We wish him nothing but the best.”
Since the show's inception in 2011, the Maroon 5 member has been a coach on every single season.
Carson disclosed that Gwen, 49, will be taking over Adam's red chair. She will join boyfriend Blake on the grand stage. “With Adam’s departure you might be wondering, ‘Well, who’s going to be sitting in that coveted big, giant red chair?’” Carson said on the news show. “And I’m happy to share this morning that Gwen Stefani will be returning for season 17. Gwen has sat in the chair before. She met her current boyfriend, Blake Shelton, through the show and we’re looking forward to having Gwen back.”
The former No Doubt frontwoman has been dating Blake since 2015. She has appeared on seasons seven, nine, and 12 of The Voice.
