The Weeknd Looks Unrecognizable During First Red Carpet Appearance Since Bella Hadid Split
The Weeknd is showing off his new look! On Monday, September 9, the “Can't Feel My Face” crooner attended the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and was nearly unrecognizable. The event was his first red carpet appearance since his split with ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid in August.
The Weeknd, 29, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, attended the premiere Uncut Gems. The Safdie brothers-directed movie also marked his first role in a feature film.
The Canada native stepped out in a sleek navy blue suit with brown shoes and he replaced his full beard with a mustache and a scruffy five o’clock shadow. Since cutting his ‘locks in 2016, The Weeknd has mainly rocked a throwback ‘90s high top haircut; however, he debuted a more grown out look on the TIFF carpet.
The “Starboy” singer’s post-breakup makeover comes a little over a month since he and on-again/off-again girlfriend Bella, 22, called it quits.
Back in August, a source close to the former couple claimed that “distance” and their hectic schedules and work commitments had contributed to this most recent split. "They are in different places right now, physically and mentally,” the source told E! News.

"Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut,” the insider added before claiming the pair hadn’t spent “quality time together in months.” And her ex isn't the only one rocking a bold new breakup look! The model has been spotted at events for New York Fashion Week with blonde locks.
However, the source remained hopeful that the two would find their way back each other. "They hope to get back together at one point but for now are focusing on themselves and their projects," the insider explained.
The Weeknd was all smiles on the red carpet and it appeared that his big screen debut was at the forefront of his mind. In the film, he plays a fictionalized version on his 2012 self.
In an interview with Variety, directors Benny and Josh Safdie explained what led to the singer's unexpected role. “He was very specific about the kind of character he wanted to play,” Benny explained before Josh added, “Because he said he was a relentless punk in 2012. So we were like, ‘Oh, okay, we’ll write that into the movie.’"
