Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler broke up after nearly 9 years of dating! The couple began dating in 2011, years after they met on the set of High School Musical.
“Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup,” an insider told Us Weekly on January 14.
The couple sparked split rumors after Austin didn’t celebrate Vanessa’s birthday. The High School Musical star’s 31st birthday was on December 13. Vanessa, 31, celebrated the day in Scotland while filming Netflix’s The Princess Switch: Switched Again and her younger sister, Stella Hudgens, surprised her on the set.
Austin, 28, was also noticeably missing on Vanessa’s social media during her winter getaway in Switzerland where she stayed for Christmas.
The last time Vanessa posted a picture of the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star on Instagram was on October 31, 2019. “Happy Halloween from my family to yours,” she captioned a picture of the two dressed and gothic attire alongside their dog.
Austin, who hasn’t been active on Instagram since October 2019, hasn’t posted a photo of The Princess Switch star since July 28, 2019. He shared a picture of them on the red carpet for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Vanessa revealed in an interview with Women’s Health in November 2018 that she wasn’t in a rush to get married although she and Austin began dating in 2011. “I want to get married, travel, then have kids — probably in my late 30s. Everyone’s clock is different,” she told the outlet.
She added, “He inspires me more than anyone. We both respect, trust, and admire each other. It’s so solid now because I feel strong as an independent woman. I am very self-reliant, but it’s nice to have a best friend you can share victories with as well as losses.”
Austin echoed Vanessa’s sentiment in an interview with E! News in July 2019. “It’s hard for me to even put into words what that girl means to me. I am so inspired by her every day and I just love her to my core,” he said.
Vanessa and Austin began dating in 2011, nearly a year after the “Say OK” singer split from her High School Musical costar Zac Efron.
