How Much Cash You'll Probably Need to Recreate a Downton Abbey Outfit Today
We don't expect you to go head-to-toe Lady Mary Crawley on us (nor really want you to), but we wouldn't be surprised if you picked up a few style lessons from the stylish Downton Abbey character or any of her friends. As it turns out, if you did want to get all decked out in Downton digs in 2014, it would put a huge, no, massive dent in your bank account. Well, unless you have thousands tucked away, it would put you into major debt—like student loan status.
One infographic, researched and created by netvouchercodes.co.uk, brings the pricing of recreating these types of wardrobes into modern day perspective. In the graphic, the site chose specific key items that the ladies and gents rock on the show and compared their dollar worth from the 1920s to today. Ever heard of cost of living increases? You did now.

For example, one of Mary's fitted trenches back in the day would cost her about $91. Sure, that was kind of a lot of cash back then, but today she'd be shelling out over $7,600—more than seven times the price of the past. Oh, and what about those little heels? They would only be a measly $28 in the age of Downton, but today they'd cost more than a pair of sparkly Christian Louboutins from Barneys. Shocking.
