Jillian Michaels on the Two Celebs She'd Love to Workout With
Jillian Michaels is set to transform yet another part of your workout regimen—and this time it has less to do with push-ups and more to do with the clothes you're setting aside for tomorrow's Pilates class. The guru behind the 30 Day Shred program (one you'll always feel the next day) has launched an athletic apparel line with Kmart, IMPACT BY Jillian Michaels. The collection is designed with signature items (think sports bras, capris, pullovers, and tanks in colorful hues) made for very specific types of exercise, like running, yoga, core training, and more.
Since we're into any sartorial opportunity that allows us to look cute while sweating up a storm, we jumped at the chance to chat with Jillian about it. Take a look at what she has to say about her new, very affordable apparel venture, the celebs she is dying to train, and her workout wardrobe pet peeve (one we can ALL relate to).
OK! Magazine: So tell us about your new clothing collection for Kmart.
Jillian Michaels: Now a days, athletic clothes are not what they even were three years ago. This is a lifestyle. Women want to go workout and have brunch with friends in the same outfit. They want to go to the farmer’s market and then take a yoga class. They want to go hiking and then take their kids to the park. Not only do we want clothes that perform, but we want clothes that look cute. We want them at a price and that are accessible. I’m incredibly excited to be partnered with Kmart because they can give you all of that.

OK!: The budget aspect is so important to women when they’re buying workout clothes.
JM: We all like the cool brands and everything, but I walked into a store and was like, ‘These are black capri pants. They’re $125. Why?’ Let’s be fair. You’re paying for a brand name. But when you can give people the same quality and same coolness at a tenth of a price, why wouldn’t you? There’s very little we can’t do here because the sheer volume and buying power that Kmart has. They are able to make these clothes affordable in the masses. It performs and looks great and that’s what matters.

OK!: With that being said, do you think having cute gym clothes will make it more likely for you to complete a workout?
JM: Without a doubt. We want to look cute. We want to feel like we look cute. You want to put on a pair of pants that don’t give you a muffin top. You want to put on a pair of pants in yoga that aren’t see-through. You want the yoga top that doesn’t fall down over your chest with you’re in Down Dog or Shoulderstand. You want clothes that flatter your body, that look cute, and that you can go about your daily routine in and feel good about. So that stuff matters. It just does. I remember years ago when you couldn’t find anything like it. It performed well, but it looked really silly and cheesy, and you’d never wear it to lunch afterwards. That whole message is changing. This isn’t just about your workout. It’s about how you live your life and what you’re going to wear.
OK!: Is there a workout wardrobe pet peeve you can’t stand?
JM: Oh my god. I cannot stand the capri pants that fall down—that kind of slide down. I can’t stand that. I can’t stand when they wear through after two washes and are totally see-through. That’s not hot at all. That drives me crazy. I can’t stand, quite honestly, yoga tops that don’t fit properly—so that when you go into Down Dog, they’re around your neck. It has to fit properly.
OK!: Is there a song you really like to workout to right now?
JM: This isn’t necessarily a workout song, but I love “Fire Meets Gasoline” by Sia. Her new album is awesome. I do tend to work out to more EDMs. We have a program we built called Body Shed. It’s pretty quick-paced and high intensity, so a lot of Aviici, Alesso, Tiësto. I love a lot of the stuff they’re doing.
OK!: Is there a celeb you’d like to workout with right now or someone you’d like to train?
JM: I was just thinking about this the other day. I’ve always wanted to train Hilary Clinton. I think she’s going to be the first female president of the United States. I would like to train the leader of the free world. I think that would be cool. I also love Eminem. I just saw him in concert and was like, ‘I want to train him.’ I think he’s fantastic. I adore him. I want to train Eminem right now. That’s my new thing.
