Actress Abigail Breslin is using one of the most painful ordeals of her life to empower others. The 'Scream Queens' star revealed in a shocking statement that she has been raped, and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The 20-year-old former child star shared that she had been diagnosed with PTSD a year and a half ago after she was raped by an ex. “I have made a lot of progress since the event occurred, but I won’t pretend it isn’t something I struggle with,” Abigail wrote. “I still have flashbacks, I still get nightmares, I still jump when somebody touches me unexpectedly, even if it’s my best friend tapping me on the shoulder.”
Abigail explains that she never reported the rape, and that she was afraid nobody would believe her. “I didn’t want to view myself as a ‘victim’ so I suppressed it and pretended it never happened,” she said. “I knew how hurt my family and friends would be after finding out and I didn’t want to put them thru that.”
Now, the actress's fans have rallied behind her, thanking her for her courage, and sharing their own stories of surviving sexual assault.
