Jennifer Lopez Defends 2019 Grammys Motown Tribute — 'It Was For My Mom'
Jennifer Lopez blew the audience away with her Motown tribute performance at the 2019 Grammys. After she did her montage of Motown hits, she spoke with Entertainment Tonight about what it meant and the backlash surrounding her performance. "It was for my mom. I could cry. It’s such a good moment. "It’s just a dream come true," the entertainer said. "Singing up there with Smokey Robinson, like, I gotta pinch myself," she added.

Fans were not happy when it was announced that she was given the honor at the awards show. They claimed she had no ties to the music. But Jenny from the block claimed that is far from the truth. "I grew up on all those songs and because my mom loved him so much she passed him on to us. The thing about music is that it inspires all. Any type of music can inspire any type of artist," the 49-year-old exclaimed. "You can’t tell people what to love. You can't tell people what they can and can’t do, what they should sing or not sing. You gotta do what’s in your heart."
