Selena Gomez Receives Backlash From a Religious Community—Here's Why
April 17 2013, Published 4:40 a.m. ET
Selena Gomez rocked the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, but not everyone was a fan of her "Come and Get It" performance. The Hindu religious community is upset about the performance, calling Selena's costume inappropriate. Hindu leaders have also pointed out that the bindi (the jewel worn on Sel's forehead) is a spiritual symbol that should not be used for anything but religious purposes. The 20-year-old singer is being prompted to apologize by Hindu statesman Rajan Zed.
