Six weeks into her intensive Dancing With the Stars training schedule, Kate Gosselin is struggling to win fans on the hit show, and it's already taken its toll on her home life.

While she's tried to minimize the impact of the show on he eight children's schedules by "dancing when they're in bed at night," Kate has, in fact, been training for as much as seven hours a day in a desperate bid to stay on DWTS and in the public eye.

"Dancing takes up her whole day," a source close to Kate tells OK! about the recently divorced reality mom's fierce commitment to upping her game.

According to the insider, the novice dancer holed up in a basement workout studio in her Reading, Penn., home from 8 a.m. till noon with dance partner Tony Dovolani. After taking just an hour for lunch, she resumed practicing from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Even following her grueling dance practice, Kate has been focusing on maintaining her glamorous new look for the cameras.

"On April 2, she took two of her daughters to the nail salon with her because she needed to get her nails done," an eyewitness tells OK!. "Back at home, nannies watched the rest of the children."

Regardless of her heavily criticized turn on DWTS, those who know Kate believe it's unlikely that her taste for stardom will disappear, which leaves her torn between a career in the spotlight and staying home with her kids.
