Everyone associates Katy Perry with extreme flamboyance, so it makes perfect sense she'd star as the girlfriend of Freddie Mercury, one of rock's most campy and glamorous performers of all time.
A while back we all heard rumors of a Queen biopic starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie, tentatively titled Mercury. Mercury was said to center around the lead singer and his tumultuous relationship with Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor.
As Freddie's bisexuality was headline-making news back in the '70s, no movie would be complete without the fascinating storyline of his girlfriend of six years, Mary Austin. Freddie dated Mary and then broke off the relationship when he revealed his desire to bed men.
“Katy would love to be in the film as she is such a huge fan," a friend of the singer told The Mirror. "She would want to play Mary Austin ideally. Katy has a similar look to Mary and would be a brilliant foil to Sacha.”
Katy's been itching to get onto the big screen, so a turn with famed director Stephen Frears opposite Sacha would absolutely be a project she'd take on.
Freddie wrote the hit single Love of My Life for Mary and left her his London house in his will.
Mercury is tentatively scheduled to be released in 2014.
