Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have fond memories of their Titanic co-star Gloria Stuart, who passed away Sunday of respiratory failure at age 100. The A-list actors both shared their thoughts in statements released to the press.
“Gloria Stuart was a force both on and off screen,” Leo said in a statement. “An amazingly sweet person, a fantastic actress, and someone who always fought for what she believed in.”
“She was one of the last great actresses from the Golden era of Hollywood,” he added “I was honored to have worked alongside her. She will be missed.”
Leo’s longtime friend and co-star Kate shared similar sentiments.
“I am so saddened to hear of the loss of this remarkable woman. I feel blessed to have met her, known her and to have acted alongside her. Anyone who spent time in her presence will know what an extraordinary shining light she truly was. She will be deeply missed.”
At 87, Gloria was the oldest actress ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for her as role as the elder version of Kate’s character Rose Calvert in Titanic.
