According to the Associated Press, Prince Harry's presence at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan was a motivating factor for the Taliban's latest attack, which killed two United States Marines and left other servicemen wounded yesterday. The British base is next to U.S. Camp Leatherneck. It was also a response to an amateur U.S.-made film that mocked Islam.

“We attacked that base because Prince Harry was also on it and so they can know our anger,” a spokesperson for the organization told the Associated Press. “Thousands more suicide attackers are ready to give up their lives for the sake of the Prophet.”

American officials said that small arms, rockets and mortars were used to attack the perimeter of Camp Bastion. Prince Harry was about a mile away from the location of the attack, according to a Ministry of Defense spokesperson.

Two NATO soldiers, whose nationalities have not been made public, were attacked by a gunman who was first thought to be part of the local Afghan police force. The gunman was then shot dead.
