Fantastic news for Jessica Alba!
The actress confirmed Wednesday morning she is expecting her first child with Cash Warren next year. The Awake star, who dropped hints of a pregnancy last month when she told OK! she "slept for, like, three hours," to prepare for the movie’s premiere, and her boyfriend of three years will become proud parents in late spring.
The key word there is "boyfriend."

Since it’s the 21st century, it’s not that much of a shock, nor is it any longer taboo, to have a child out of wedlock, and you need to look no further than celebrities for evidence of this trend. Whether it be unyielding no-marriage principles (a la Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry) or just postponed nuptials (Joel Madden and Nicole Richie), stars love getting knocked up without getting hitched.
See who else has done the same.
#12 Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams
While they are no longer a couple, Heath and Michelle kick-started the preggo and unmarried trend. The duo met on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004 and became engaged shortly thereafter. Before they could walk down the aisle though, they made a pit stop at the maternity ward. Michelle gave birth to daughter Matilda Rose on Oct. 28, 2005 (BBM co-star Jake Gyllenhaal is godfather!). For another two years, Heath, 28, and Michelle, 27, continually brushed off talk of marriage, saying they don’t need a piece of paper to prove their love to each other. Perhaps it’s a good thing they never made it official — they split in late summer.
#11 Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
They’re happily married now, but when Suri was born on April 18, 2006, mommy and daddy were still just happily engaged. In fact, the couple spent nearly a year and a half engaged before tying the knot, and in that time frame, produced their little TomKitten. It wasn’t until seven months later, with Suri in tow, that Tom, now 45, and Katie, 29, became husband and wife in a lavish Roman ceremony.
#10 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
The world stopped May 27, 2006, a.k.a. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt‘s birth. Finally, the world’s most beautiful baby was here, so onto the next question — when will Brangelina get married? Not any time soon. After a two-year courtship and despite incessant speculation, including rumors of an Easter weekend wedding this year, Brad, 43, and Angie, 32, are adamant about maintaining their current relationship status as just partners. "We’re legally bound to our children, not to each other, and I think that’s the important thing," Angelina has said.
#9 Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard
After four years together, it was time for indie faves Maggie and Peter to get engaged — and they did, along with getting pregnant! The couple announced their pregnancy and engagement on the same day last spring, leaving many to wonder if they would wed pre-baby or post-baby. The answer? Post. Maybe. Baby Ramona came into the world on Oct. 3, 2006, but her mom and dad have still yet to get hitched.
#8 Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber
Ever the jokester, Liev Schreiber threw the media for a loop when he announced to Entertainment Tonight in June, "We are married. You got it first. Break the story!" Alas, there are no wedding photos. Then there was talk of a small Aussie wedding before Naomi, 39, gave birth. Nope. False too. The two remain legally single, but happily together, especially with the addition of son Alexander Pete, whom they lovingly call "Sasha," born July 26.
#7 Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault
Taking a page from Maggie and Peter’s double announcement book, Salma and her billionarie Francois-Henri Pinault pulled a double whammy in March, revealing they, too, are engaged and expecting. But just like Maggie and Peter, they didn’t pull a shotgun wedding either. Daughter Valentina Paloma was born Sept. 21, and the 41-year-old actress and Francois, who owns such labels as Yves-Saint Laurent, are still just bethrothed.
#6 Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher
Sacha and Isla’s favorite movie must be A Very Long Engagement because they sure are living it! The couple have been together for five years, engaged for three, and still not married. Part of the reason for the long pause is because Isla studied and converted to Judaism out of respect for her man’s parents. In that time, the two became parents! Isla gave birth to their daughter Olive on Oct. 18, and right now the focus seems to be parenthood rather than wedding date. "I plan on just coloring in books. I’ll focus on that for the next few years."
#5 Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson
Now that the Resident Evil star has welcomed daughter Ever Gabo J., on Nov. 3, she can get started on those wedding details. Engaged since 2003, Milla refused to exchange vows with her director-fiance as an expectant bride. "I don’t want to do a white-trash wedding with a big belly," she said.
#4 Drea de Matteo and Shooter Jennings
Sopranos alum Drea de Matteo got an early Christmas present when she gave birth to daughter Alabama Gypsy Rose on Nov. 28. The little girl, whom Shooter proudly calls "a little hellraiser," is the first child for the couple of six years. Yes, six! And no ring! But from the sounds of it, there may never will be. "I just feel like it’s just a contract," the actress has said of marriage. "Why sign any more contracts, really?"
#3 Poppy Montgomery and Adam Kaufman
The Aussie actress is due any day now with a baby boy, who will make first-time parents out of Poppy and her longtime boyfriend, actor Adam Kaufman. As for marriage though, the 35-year-old, who invited OK! to her baby shower and inside her nursery, says it’s not her main concern at the moment. "We’ve discussed it, certainly,” Poppy tells OK! “My belief has been as long as we’re a happy couple and we’re good parents, that’s the priority.”
#2 Nicole Richie & Joel Madden
After weeks of speculation, Nicole and Joel finally confirmed their baby news to Diane Sawyer in a three-part sit-down interview in July. "I am…We are," she answered. What they’re not though is married. But the rocker assures everyone that Nicole, 26, will make an honest man out of him — after their baby is born in January. "Marriage is in our future. I don’t know when or where or how, but right now our priority is our family and is the baby."
#1 Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry
Not shy about her maternal desires, Halle’s wish finally came true this fall when she learned she was expecting her first child with model-boyfriend Gabriel. "Gabriel and I are beyond excited and I’ve waited a long time for this moment in my life," she announced. While she’s excited for mommyhood, the same can’t be said for marriage. After two failed marriages, the 41-year-old, due in March, remains staunch on her no-wedding stance. "I will never, never get married again," Halle has said.
