The US Open was amazing. On our way in we saw a vinyl wall decorated with the likeness of all the tennis players- from the Williams sisters to Andy Roddick and Roger Federer – where fans stand and take photos that would appear to be with the players themselves. The image of Roger reminded us of a person we all knew and we wanted to take a photo flanking his image- but there was a line! As you can see by the photo, we waited, but it was quite interesting to notice he was the only player with a line as Andy’s picture seemed unnoticed and Maria Sharapova was left alone. He’s cute, but as cute as Andy? I know Vogue editrix Anna Wintour has been dressing him, become a public admirer of the 25-year-old and he is even on the cover of Men’s Vogue – but is that enough to sway fans who didn’t seem the Vogue-reading type? Inside we first stopped by the Heineken Lounge (Heineken, via Relevent Ent’s Tony Berger, were generous enough to give us our tickets) and Sarah discovered Heineken Light for the first time. I think I went to the launch party about a year ago, but it is about time a premium beer came in light, even if I do only fancy myself a beer drinker at sporting events. We didn’t want to leave the lovely suite but were ecstatic when we realized that our seats were even better. I love playing tennis but never had the patience to sit down and watch a game on TV – but sitting in a second row box seat at the Open, – next to Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez who came with his wife straight from a winning Yankee game- it was a lot cooler than I gave it credit for. We watched a woman’s match that came down to a tie breaker and it was edge-of-you-seat intensity I hadn’t realized you could get from being at a tennis match. Tomorrow, I’m not going to make it out as far as the Hamptons, but I am going to get on a train to Long Island to go to my parent’s house and play tennis. I realized at the match the problem with my game may be I don’t grunt enough. Tonight the female winner had a solid ‘oom-pah’ with nearly every swing- I’m eager to get on a court and try that out.
