12 Secrets From the Set of New Apocalyptic Show The 100
Has Divergent got you all fired up for some more teens in apocalyptic scenarios? Then you need to watch The 100, which debuted last week on the CW. It's the story of 100 juvenile delinquents who are dropped back on Earth decades after a nuclear apocalypse. Talk about your recipes for disaster. OKMagazine.com visited the set of the show last fall, and here's the scoop we learned. Tune in to The 100 on Wednesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
1. Cute blondie Clarke will be one of the leaders on Earth.
"She's a natural-born leader, not really by choice. I think she just cares a great deal about people," explained star Eliza Taylor. "These one-hundred juvenile delinquents need to work together for the good of the group, but obviously they don't want to. So she's trying to get everyone to work together so that the human race can survive."

2. But Clarke's got some mommy (and daddy) issues.
Of Clarke's relationship with mom, Eliza says, "I think it's quite fickle, given whats happened with her father. Obviously her father's passed away and there's a lot of animosity between them based on the fact that Clarke believed they should share the secret about the ark with people for the good of mankind. Mother Abby didn't. She thought that it needed to be kept under wraps. There's that huge issue between them."
3. There's an immediate love triangle, with the blonde and the brunette vying for the same guy.
"He's pretty cute, isn't he?" Eliza said of Finn, played by Thomas McDonell. "Finn and Clarke have a rally lovely chemistry. They both love the same things, even if Finn does come across as another rebel. He does in fact really care, and Clarke sees that and falls for him a little bit." "Everybody takes a liking to Finn, just because of his easy-going and care-free nature," said Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays rival Octavia.
4. But the girls' relationship is more complex than just this romantic conflict.
"Clarke and Octavia could not be more ying and yang, but to the compassion of each other and the human spirit in general," said Avgeropoulos. "They have their moments, but they're still two teenage girls."
5. Finn himself is a slippery guy.
"The thing about Finn is he's able to more easily influence characters, and drift between the groups," said Thomas McDonell. "There's a flexibility about him. Everyone admires him, because of another incident. He's kind of a hero. So while this infighting happens, he's not a part of that immediate conflict."

6. Octavia is the livewire.
"Like any teenager wants to do, she wants to make the mistakes for herself. She wants to figure things out for herself," said Avgeropoulos. "It's fun to play a feisty character like Octavia. Her and I have a lot in common."
7. The freaky animals packed with radiation aren't the scariest part about life on Earth.
"What she's most concerned about is Bellamy's power over the group," Taylor said of the natural male leader of the kids. "They're going to be butting heads a lot during the series, because he has his own secret agenda. He wants the ark to come down, and she wants the opposite."

8. The leadership back on the ship in space isn't getting along so well, either.
Star Henry Ian Cusick, who plays Councillor Kane, said, "Even I'm not really sure of the dynamic with Jaha played by Isaiah Washington. You would think, after watching the first episode, that I would want him out of the way, and you might think i have something to do with his attempted assassination, but I think the relationships more complex than that. It's tension-filled."
9. The adults back on the ship don't know if the kids on Earth are alive or dead.
"I think it's uninhabitable, and people are dying," Cusick said of his character. "So it's clear to me what's going on. Because of that, there is conflict, because I'm very sure that people are dying on this toxic Earth, and there are other people who are convinced they're not."

10. Yes, there will be consequences to that freaky snake attack in the pilot.
"Octavia's definitely affected by the damage it bought to her," said Avgeropoulos. "Her brother Bellamy is upset with her spontaneous, erratic behavior. She doesn't think before she does things. The snake, or whatever it was, is definitely a byproduct of the apocalypse and radiation. You'll have to see!"
11. All those gorgeous jungle scenes are real.
"It looks like this could have been shot against a green screen but it's not. It's so beautiful," said Avgeropoulos. "To open my eyes and look at it like a child was really easy for me."
12. The cast have no idea where the story is headed.
"We haven't been given a blueprint of where the show will go. That's the nature of episodic television," said Cusick. "You're given a script, and you play the scene as you think it is... You're in the moment, or trying to figure out as you go along. in the early part of a series, you're figuring out who your character is as much as the audience is."
