Tough to believe, but it's been over a year since former Disney star Demi Lovato completed her outpatient treatment for "emotional and physical" issues after punching a back-up dancer in October 2010.

In a candid interview with Fabulous magazine, she tells the publication that before reaching the ripe old age of 19, she was club-hopping and accepting free booze and drugs from club promoters.

"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there," she says. "They were basically kissing my a**. I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no.' That's why so many celebrities end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

While the drinking and drugging was fun at first, it soon turned ugly. Demi was "depressed" and began using drugs as a way to feel happy again.

"I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up,'" she said.

In addition to drugs and alcohol, Demi was also making herself throw up "six times a day" and cutting her wrists (the scars are now cleverly covered with tattoos that read 'stay' and 'strong').

While the actress says she's remained clean and sober since her release, she tells Fabulous she's "slipped" a few times with her eating disorder and harming herself."Im not saying I'm perfect, or fixed, but I am learning to love and accept myself. My outlook is more positive and I am happy," she says.

Demi's new single, the aptly titled, Give Your Heart a Break, is out May 14.
