In Defense of Jonah Hill: 5 Reasons He's Awesome
Jonah Hill was just nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street and is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and it seems to us that he is not getting nearly enough respect these days. Critics have complained that he didn't deserve this surprise Oscar nom—a similar reaction to his first nod, for Moneyball in 2011. Jonah is awesome! Here are 5 reasons why:
He just revealed he received minimum wage to act in The Wolf of Wall Street. In an interview this week, he confessed he accepted the SAG minimum of $60,000 for the role. The man takes his craft seriously! "I would sell my house and give him all my money to work for Scorsese," he said. "I would have done anything in the world. I would do it again in a second."

He made 21 Jump Street a success. The concept of rebooting an 80s drama into a modern buddy comedy seemed doomed to fail. But with Jonah's heart and Channing Tatum's surprising comedic timing, the movie was one of the biggest successes of 2012. Oh, and he wrote the thing.

He also wrote, created, produced, and voiced his own cartoon on Fox, Allen Gregory. He played a brilliant, pretentious little 7-year-old who carried sushi and pinot grigio in his lunch box. We would have sat in the sandbox with him. The show didn't last very long, and we were sad for JH.

He knows how to make fun of himself. He played a slightly more ridiculous version of "Jonah Hill" in This Is the End.

He's consistently funny, but he is way more adept at dramatic roles than people give him credit for. Besides those two Oscar nominations, he turned in a subtle, creepy performance as a son who doesn't want to give his mother up to a new boyfriend in Cyrus.
