Jimmy Kimmel was vacationing in the South Pacific when the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit Japan. He’s been Tweeting updates on his safety and says he is evacuating.
Tsunami warnings are in effect throughout the region, and also in the United States, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Jimmy has been Tweeting updates from French Polynesia, beginning with humorous ones, but then switching to more serious ones when his fans expressed a lot of concern.
“Suddenly, relaxing on an island in the South Pacific isn’t so relaxing anymore,” he Tweeted early this morning. “Good thing I brought my aqua stilts.”
Jimmy was asked how scared he was on a scale of 1-10 and he Tweeted back “a good solid 7. on a small island, with no high ground.”
“Thanks again for the concern — I am now worried others will worry if I don’t tweet — but if I don’t, don’t,” he added.
And at 9:40 a.m. ET this morning, Jimmy wrote, “we are evacuating the island. dogspeed.”
