There hasn't been a bigger celebrity news story this year than Katie Holmes's shock divorce filing from Tom Cruise.

But the 33-year-old newly single actress says that the breakdown of her relationship with one of Hollywood's most influential stars is nothing compared to what other people go through.

The single mom is raising six-year-old daughter Suri in the Big Apple and the little girl is set to start attending school for the first time.

Although there have been rumors the mini-fashionista will attend either Academy of the Sacred Heart Catholic School or Avenues World School, Katie says that everyone will "find out in due time."

The former Dawson's Creek starlet is also set to return to Broadway in Dead Accountants in late November.

"It's a medium I really enjoy," Katie said who got to show off her thespian side in All My Sons back in 2008.

"I'm a schedule person. I like to have a routine. You're also very in touch with your audience - they're very much a part of the show, which is obviously something you don't have in film."

"With film, yeah, you have another take, but a lot of the time you're losing the light, so you better nail it on that take. I haven't found any part of acting to be easy."

Katie is preparing to show her first collection from her Holmes & Yang fashion line at New York Fashion Week but she maintains her most important role is that of mom and trying to give her a normal an upbringing as possible.

"I spray-paint shoe racks, because, why not?" Katie shared about getting crafty. "Sometimes I think, 'Oh, I'm a great mom'… and then it doesn't really pan out the way I think it's going to. But the intention's there."

"I've always painted and done crafts at home - I have to stay creative in every aspect of my life. My sister teaches art, and she gives me a lot of ideas."

And Katie's brave move to end her high-profile marriage has also encouraged her to try something new every day without "being afraid to fail."

"Who cares? At least you tried," the Romantics actress expressed. "It's usually the people who haven't tried who are the naysayers."
