OK! Blog: Anoop Desai's Idol Dish

Of the more than one million people across the country who’ve auditioned for American Idol, only a few dozen know what it’s truly like to live the Idol life. That’s why OKmagazine.com has brought in an expert! Every week, former finalist Anoop Desai shares his insights on the new season, only for OK!.
So it was finally Tim's time to go last week. I shed no tears, but I sort of felt for him. After all, he will forever be known as the pretty boy from this season's show.
That's not an unfamiliar role on Idol, a television program that is as much about style as substance. More power to him for riding this thing for as much as it was worth and then some. And as much as I feel bad for him that future utterances of "Tim Urban" will probably be made in a not-so-glamorous context, the kid is going on tour, he has a chance to continue doing what he loves to do, and he probably made some good friends.

But now that the obvious weak link is gone from the competition, I think the stakes are much higher than they have been at any point this season. This is go time. Shania Twain is the theme...I guess this is some iteration of the annual country music theme. This was a week that I loved last year because I felt no pressure. Country music has never really been my thing, and so I found a song with a good melody that I thought I could sing well- Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind." It paid off.

I think this year's contestants could use a bit of that same strategy. Try not to harp on what you think will please the judges. Do you. I think a lot of that lies in speeding it up a little bit. The past couple weeks have been so ballad heavy that I've craved a great uptempo song.
There's still time for another contestant to really give Crystal Bowersox a run for the title, but time is growing scarce. So good luck to the contestants tonight!
