Of the more than one million people across the country who’ve auditioned for American Idol, only a few dozen know what it’s truly like to live the Idol life. That’s why OKmagazine.com has brought in an expert! Every week, former finalist Anoop Desai shares his insights on the new season, only for OK!.
Well, it was time for two to leave last week. It’s the same situation I found myself in last year when I left the show.
It was a few weeks later in the scheme of the contest, but nevertheless, Lil Rounds and I had each other to commiserate with as we made the press rounds. If Andrew and Katie are feeling like Lil and I were, they are ready to get on with their careers. I wish them the best of luck.
I always tell people that there comes a time when you don’t want to be on American Idol in front of 25 million people every week. Strangely enough, when that feeling emerges, you’re surely gone from the program. It’s like clockwork. When Lil and I were eliminated, we both felt an eerie sense of calm about the situation and shared an excitement about getting back to our families and friends.
Family and friends have always been my comfort in life. And this is the perfect week for Idol fans to think about how much family, friends and comforts mean to them. I say this because it’s time for “Idol Gives Back.”
There was no “Idol Gives Back” last year when I was on the show, and I was disappointed to say the least. After all, we gave our time and energy to such beautiful causes as Ford and Coca-Cola, so I would have liked to do something worthwhile. Not to mention the musical performances that traditionally bring the house down every time I’ve seen “IGB”.
Do you remember Annie Lennox‘s performance of “Many Rivers to Cross?” That version still gives the chills. “IGB” is one of the coolest things that the American Idol franchise does, and this year promises to be no different.
Don’t simply sit back and enjoy it, though.
I implore everyone to really take in the message and do your part. Donate when prompted on Wednesday’s program. The money will help the Idol Gives Back Foundation and its partners help some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
