OK! or OMG?!: Read Our Review of Kick-Ass 2

Kick-Ass 2 mostly picks up where the first movie leaves off. The teens have for the most part retired their costumes and given up fighting crime, but soon Kick-Ass joins with other regular citizens in costume to start doing it again when the community needs help. Only issue? Hit Girl, the greatest fighter ever, basically, promised Marcus, her guardian, that she wouldn't do it anymore. But that doesn't last long.

McLovin, um, Christopher Mintz-Plasse returns as the villain who starts his own clan of superheroes who try to wipe out Kick-Ass and his do-gooders. His superhero name is Mother F****er, so there's that. Oh yeah, there's lots of foul language in the film. NSFW.

BUT of course, the main attraction of this film is the fighting. Jim Carrey apparently didn't want to do press for the film because he didn't want to promote violence after the school shooting in Newtown, and let me just say—this movie is violent. There are limbs popping off and bullets going through heads and 8 cops get murdered simultaneously. So yeah, if you can't handle blood and stuff, don't see this movie. DO NOT GO.

One of my favorite parts of the film is when Hit Girl, real name Mindy played by Chloe Grace Moretz, attempts to fit in and be a normal high school student. The scene where she has a sleepover with her school's popular girls is literally the scene from Mean Girls where the girls go over to Regina George's mansion, except the whole scene is basically making fun of teen girl stuff like abbrevations, texting and boy bands. And there's a scene where she embarrasses the girls in the cafeteria which reminds me of a cafeteria scene in 17 Again. Basically, there are some AWESOME high school cliches in the film. But also jokes. Lots of jokes.

And speaking of teen girls, the pop culture references are amazing. Never mind that Donald Faison from Clueless is in it and that's a pop culture reference right there, but there are mentions of things like Union J (the wannabe One Direction), Bieber, Twilight, and Channing Tatum. The movie also sort of makes fun of itself a few times, like when Dave wears a short that says "I Hate Reboots" when clearly this movie is one. You'll laugh.

But for me, and probably for most people, the best part is Chloe Moretz. Her character Hit Girl rocks. Never have you ever seen a tougher 15-year-old girl (Bella Swan doesn't count) who can literally kill 6 men in 5 minutes. She's emotionally tough, too, which is awesome because soooo few movies have young girls as smart and strong and awesome as she is.

OK! or OMG?!: Listen, the plot was good, it was funny, the movie went quickly and wasn't boring. But I could totally have done without all that blood. You go into this movie thinking that it's a friendly superhero movie for kids but it is not. Don't think that. But still go see it. It gets an OMG for it's kick-ass-ness.
