Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's divorce was so sudden that even their good family friend Mark Hoppus says he was "caught off guard" by the news.

PopEater chatted with Mark about the news of Pete and Ashlee's divorce and he revealed he didn't know about it ahead of the announcement.
"I saw that. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to Pete about it yet. It really caught me off guard," he said. "I had no idea. I mean, I'm friends with him and Ashlee, our families go out and have meals together and our kids play together."

"It really, really saddens me that that's the case and I hope that they're in a good spot because they're both very nice people," he added. "I hope they can work things through in a positive way because that's a really sad thing to have happened."
"Especially when there's a kid involved... that's no good."
