It is tough keeping a relationship going in Rosewood, and no one knows that better than Spencer and Toby. They're on, they're off—it's exhausting! And while season four ended with Toby jamming out of town after having his fill of Spencer's lies and drug addiction, it seems like upon his return in season five the duo might be able to work things out after all. "Everything they go through definitely deepens their relationship and the one thing that Toby really can’t stand is lies," she told reporters at a press day for PLL's 100th episode (airing July 8). "There was a lot of lying with Spencer getting deeper and deeper into her Adderall addiction and a lot of hiding. He really hates that. I think that’s why she came clean. She was forced to. She didn’t come out and say, 'Hey, I’m struggling with this,' so he got really upset. I think that’s why he left at the end of last season."

"There’s a big hump they have to get over which is that it wasn’t really her choice to get off the drugs, even though now she’s doing a lot better," she says. :They have to find each other again. They have to learn to trust each other. But everything that happens in their relationship there’s a huge deepening because now there’s a whole new level of trust they’ve been through. For such a young couple they’ve been through so much!"

Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesday at 8/7c on ABC Family.
