Whenever Ricky Martin steamed up the charts and shook that bon bon, he was dealing with a lot of internal struggles regarding his sexuality. Last night on The Tonight Show he talked to Jay Leno about simultaneously being gay and an international sex symbol for women.

In fact, one of the early struggles for the former Menudo star dealt with equated to being eye candy for women. According to PopEater he told Jay, "I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn't say that I was gay." He added, "It was a lot of struggle. If you add to that just call it culture, religion, society, what people say. What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind was evil."

Although he came to terms with the struggle, some fans weren't surprised when he finally came out of the closet and read his story in his autobiography, Me. He joked their reaction was, "Yeah, what's new, we knew that."
