Oprah traveled to Barbados to get a sense of Rihanna in her hometown, and tells viewers Rihanna was much softer than expected.
"I was expecting a badass, a hard-edged rocker woman," Oprah said. "Nothing could be farther from the truth. She was thoughtful, she was very emotional, she was vulnerable... I came away really getting a great sense as to who she was."
Of course Oprah asked about Chris Brown, and Rihanna got teary discussing that violent night in February of 2009, when she and her then boyfriend got into a physical altercation.
"It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend," she said. "I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark."
Chris would later plead guilty to one count of felony assault, which earned him five years of probation and six months of community service.
