Rooney Mara will do whatever it takes to make The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a good film that fans want to see — including posing topless for the movie poster and filming the book's difficult rape scene.
In the new Fall Movie Preview issue of Entertainment Weekly, Rooney discussed some of the controversy surrounding the film.
For the film's movie poster, Rooney poses topless with her co-star Daniel Craig holding (and covering) her.
“I was supportive of it. I understand why there was a lot of controversy," Rooney tells EW. "People have a hard time with strong females and with nudity. But I think had I been doing something incredibly violent on the poster, people wouldn’t have had a problem with it. That sort of says a lot about the world that we live in."

"It’s just a teaser poster," she adds. "I think it did just that. It teased people.”

Also, the book that the film is based on includes an intense rape scene that Rooney admits was very difficult to film.
“It was incredibly intense. We did it all in a week — the week of Valentine’s Day, oddly enough," she reveals. "We were working 16 hours a day, and it was really, really challenging, not just emotionally but physically.
"But it’s such an important scene," Rooney explains. "We wanted to do everything we could to get that right.”
