Even super beautiful Hollywood stars have their moments of self doubt!
Winona Ryder is opening up to the new issue of Interview magazine, telling an amazing tale about how she was told she "wasn't pretty enough" to make it as an actress, and OKMagazine.com has all the details.
The gorgeous brunette, who is now 41 years old, has never looked better, sizzling in a stunning photoshoot with photographer Craig McDean, but shared that when she was first starting out in the cut-throat business she was told not to bother as she didn't measure up in the looks department!
"I was in the middle of auditioning, and I was mid-sentence when the casting director said, 'Listen, kid. You should not be an actress. You are not pretty enough. You should go back to wherever you came from and you should go to school," Ryder says. "'You don't have it.
"She was very blunt—I honestly think that she thought she was doing me a favor," Ryder adds.
"I was around 15 or 16. But it's funny—and this is a testament to my parents and how they raised me— I wasn't crushed. They had always instilled in me that it was way cooler to be an individual and to be unique and that you don't want to blend in."
Winona hit the big time with her staring role in the 1988 Tim Burton flick, Beetlejuice, going on to star in cult favorite Heathers, alongside Christian Slater, but she admits she believed nobody viewed her as a beauty until a few years later.

"I've always sort of assumed that it wasn't until Mermaids or Dracula that people thought I was pretty," she says, explaining how she was "unusual looking" and not considered a true "beauty" of the time.
Ryder has been acting since her teens—but took a break from the Hollywood scene after a very public break-up from Johnny Depp followed by a highly embarrassing 2001 arrest for shoplifting.
The actress returned to the big screen in 2006, appearing in Star Trek, and in 2010 was nominated for a SAG Award along with the cast of Black Swan.
And, it seems she is back to stay in the public eye—at least for now—appearing in two films this year, The Iceman, along with Michael Shannon, and Homefront, with James Franco and Jason Statham.
