Kim Cattrall has left some mighty big Manolo Blahniks to fill, and it seems that Bravo’s very own Andy Cohen is ready to throw his foot in the ring. OK! has learned that the Watch What Happens Live host is trying to convince his A-list buddy Sarah Jessica Parker to cast him in the HBO Max reboot of Sex and the City.
“Andy isn’t shy about pitching himself and would love to join SJP in Sex and the City when the show returns,” a source exclusively tells OK!. “With Kim Cattrall not returning, and her role as Samantha Jones not being recast, the show is looking to bring in lots of new characters. Andy thinks he would be perfect.”
Cohen, 52, is no stranger to Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes, who will all return for HBO Max’s And Just Like That…. Previously, the Bravo-lebrity made two cameos on the show: once as a Barney’s shoe salesman and another as a shirtless guy in a gay bar standing next to fashion-forward columnist Carrie.
However, this time around, our source says he wants to play a more major part in the lives of the tremendous trio.
“Years ago, I used to beg Sarah Jessica to let me run Sex and the City lines with her. I’d even finagled an audition for a party planner role on Sex and the City,” he wrote in his book The Andy Cohen Diaries.
But when it came time to shine, he completely choked. “I’ll never forget the looks of horror on Sarah Jessica and [John Benjamin] Hickey’s faces when I tried to act out a scene for them,” he explained, adding: “I didn’t get the part.”
Will he finally get a second shot at SATC? “Andy and SJP have been friends for a long time. He has been her plus one to the Met Gala for many years,” adds a pal. “However, asking for a spare ticket to a party and asking for a job are two very different things.”
Parker, 55, who is also an executive producer on the reboot, may be put in a pickle with everyone wanting a piece of the Sex and the City pie. “There is no doubt many famous New Yorkers, including Andy, will make cameos in the new series, but Carrie already has her two best friends on the show, and she doesn’t plan on replacing Mario Cantone or Willie Nelson with Andy Cohen,” adds our insider.
“There is no way she is replacing two professional actors with her pushy pal.”
